RYUGO WINS BIG | RESERVES WIN IN OT | STATE LEAGUE OFF TO FINALS??
12 Aug by Jorge Menidis
Its been a long and in many ways grinding year and whilst things are not as yet done and dusted, a few things did wrap on the weekend.
CHADFIELD HEARTBREAKING END TO SEASON
It has been a long and hard season for our Chadfield lacrosse players. Whilst over 24 players fronted and played for the combined Chadstone and Caulfield side scoring some great victories along the way, injuries, illness and LV finals restrictions ended up curtailing their scheduled finals match against Melbourne Uni on Sunday (11 August).
Whilst season 2024 may have come to a close, the Club is already planning for a stand alone Chadstone women’s team in 2025 and is calling for all interested players, coaches and support staff to watch this space in the coming weeks.
RESERVES WIN IN OVERTIME!
It may have been their last match of the season but the Senior Men’s Reserves team led on the field by Phil Johnson in defence and his brother Mitch Johnson in attack ground out one of the most defensively dominant games in club history beating Brunswick in OT – 3-2!
Mitch Johnson picked up 2 goals and Lennon Fowler scored the third in a memorable game in what has been a long season that saw over 26 players put on the rouge.
Big thank you to all the boys who put their hand up to play = especially when Scotty made those late Friday calls.
Big thank you also to Trent and Janine Cuthell who manned the scorers bench so often this year – and to everyone else who helped keep the Resies humming in 2024.
STATE LEAGUE CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR… THIS TIME
State League faced their fierce rivals Brunswick in another very competitive game in whch a injury ravaged State League side – missing regulars Ryan May, James Cleary, Jordie Vinall-Richardson, Harry Lowe and Kale Murfett – took on league leaders Brunswick at Percy Treyvaud.
In a close fought game that was matched into the final quarter, the injury ravaged Chaddy faced what some would argue to be enthusiastic refereeing scrutinee and ran out of steam to go down 14-9.
Blake Morrow picked up 4 goals and Carter Flanagan 3 with Richard Grant scoring a couple.
BIG thank you to Jeremy Snider who stepped into the cage for the covid stricken Ryan May.
Special mention also should go to Taz and Jono who both stepped up to play long poles to make up for the injured outs.
All is not lost yet for It should be noted that all is not yet lost yet for State League who will prepare for a Preliminary Final match on Saturday 24 August – subject to this Saturday’s results. Watch this space…
